Another artist that appeared in the Material World exhibit at MassMoCA is Wade Kavanaugh and his collaborator Stephen Nguyen. They make absolutely awesome and massive installation pieces out of craft paper mostly.
The above looks like a big red forest! Wade seems to individually work more with building materials like sheet rock, plywood and studs. Wade is originally from Portland, ME and went to Bowdoin – so pretty local to where I’m at these days!
I love not only the industrial materials he chooses but also their colors and regularity. While they’re still essentially building materials they seem to have more form and consistency than some artists who work with natural materials like Andy Goldsworthy or Gyongy Laky, who I love for their own styles!
One piece I really like is a unique outdoor piece made of steel studs, see below. I could see one of these in our meadow!
